The presentation will include hands on activities such as, but not limited to: how to orchestrate an advisory group whereby the class will be divided and experience a group discussion based upon examples of issues facing our children today; small group activities that identify “good listeners” and the skills they possess (has been wonderful for board members and superintendents in the past!!); scenarios presented for groups to brainstorm and come to resolution/conflict resolution; several examples of written material used in advisory programs such as “The Maligned Wolf,’ “The Power of One,” etc; “sculpting’ to observe and assess situations as well as offering specific examples based upon the needs and requests of the group. These activities show how to connect a Character Education program with your crisis management, school safety, discipline, academic, social emotional issues, parent programs, service learning and community involvement. Pro active strategies will be presented to educate parents, students and staff on issues such as cyber bullying, eating disorders, self harm, gangs, school safety etc. An environment of confidence and trust will be created, thus producing an atmosphere where students will feel comfortable, safe from harm and ridicule allowing the prime components for learning.
